Xaide is a
- web designer & developer
- writer
- programmer
- scientist/researcher
- girl
- woman
- entrepreneur
- child
- creator
- consumer
- critic
all that and more, not necessarily in that order.
Some of the things she would have liked to do but has no time to:
- play guitar
- sing
- draw black&white
- sculpt
- write scripts for movies
- read more (but not any) books and understand the great rules/facts that make the world spin the way it does
- travel a lot more
- collect a lot of music, listen to it, understand it
- play more World of Warcraft
- have more patience in relationships…. (that is HARD)
Do u really want to know what makes the world spin the way it does? What if it is difficult to accept? Don’t you think it might be better to keep on living the way you do. Not perfectly happy maybe but then things could be much worse. The truth - it takes tough people to live with it because it might cost you your live, at least the way you might like it at this moment. Can there be any reward?
And if you are not the centre of the universe - who is?
I am definetely not the center of the universe. And because of that, and the fact that not everything in this life goes the way I’d want it to, I need facts and figures and theories and rules that make my environment predictable to me and therefore make me more adaptable and better prepared for whatever is to come.
Great truths do not damage me, they educate me, they make me a better animal in the race for survival. If I had remained contempt with the borrowed knowledge from my fore-fathers and mothers, I would have been nothing more than a pathetic copy, a mere transport facility with no brains or will to make more than obey whatever written rules were passed on to me.
As to the risks of gaining new pieces of knowledge - I can only say that among other illustrious pleasures a man can experience, one that I truly am addicted to right to the bones and that I constantly endeavour in getting is that of self-elevation or self-progress. And althouth I cannot consider myself as being a true hedonist, I cannot refuse such glory and self-amazement in the detriment of just “living” longer, especially when “living” reffers to sustainability of the primary functions.
Furthemore, the act of “living” while being deprived of self-progress can be considered the death of the individual or maybe just some imperfect hibernation procedure, since as a human being you are clearly incomplete and your remaining, allowed & limited body-functions deteriorate anyhow although at a lower pace.
In short, I’d rather be a shooting star than a rock fragment with a chaotic movement pattern.
To answer to your qustions:
- yes, I really want to know what makes the world spin the way it does
- most of the pieces of knowledge you gain, harm you in one way or another; that doesn’t mean that when used properly they won’t turn to your advantage. Change is usually a necesity, and many people dislike it because it brings unfamiliarity in their lives, making them feel uncomfortable or not-at-home.
- knowledge used right doesn’t bring disasters. lack of knowledge often does.
- I can’t really say that I’m a tough individual, maybe compared to others… who knows?
- nobody is in the center of the universe. get used to the idea.
do not hesitate to reply when needed
forever at my discretion,
Xaide
Hi there, I am glad you repeated that “you are not the center of the universe”, neither am I - of course not but mankind (and most individuals)behaves exactly that way! I said it to tickle somebody. And I think we shouldn’t be to sure that you and me and whoever claims it for himself is really rid of this kind of thinking and thus potntially acting.
Regarding knowledge - it often puffs one up and she or he thinks of himself very highly and starts disregarding those who might lack a “bit” of it. I am not saying it’s bad, I appreciate it myself and I benefit from other peoples knowledge. As with many things it is the motive that drives you through live that will make all the difference - whether you and others will truly benefit from it or not. You are not just the amount of what you know right?
Still, with all the love for knowledege - that to a degree at least I share with you - and for me at least it includes the “simple” skill of living a content live whilest knowing that I am never perfect, yet pursuing it on a daily basis, and failing and getting up again, what do you really mean by self - elevation? Elevate yourself over whom or what? Elevate yourself over the limits of time or just see decay like the rest? What is the greater idea behind a self elevated Xaide, you will always be human and die. Unless there is something greater outside humanity, nothing can ever truly elevate you and me or anybody to a place of glory, and all we will ever see is the ugly face of our carnality as we yet live as if we would once be the center of this universe if we just work hard enough.
I might get you wrong, please see this as somebody looking for understanding not somebod questioning you - what right would I have.
Thank you for your time I appreciate that.
Whoever you need to tickle, it is not my concern. I do however draw attention to the fact that many people consider confidence an act of egocentrism, something that I in turn consider plain… well… lack of knowledge and intellect.
Confidence comes with the value of a person, which like most things in this world, can be measured through economic (business) techniques.
Let’s take a piece of land near a lake as an object to be e-valua-ted. For starters, that piece of land has some exploitation value which is independent of the subjects who would use it. This exploitation value is given by the Affordance Theory. In short, the land affords, let’s say, building a house on it, cultivating rice, corn, wheat and whatever, planting trees for harvesting wood or just building a recreational summer-camp. The more (diversity and depth of actions) it affords, the greater the value. The exploitation value is an absolute value.
Secondly, there’s the market value. This depends on possible customers and their needs - how much of the affordances of the object are really in demand, and on the other pieces of land ready to be bought - what has this piece of land have to offer compared to others. The market value is a subjective value, thus it can be artificially inflated or depreciated.
There are different price policies that the owner of the specific piece of land can put into practice. When he sets the price higher than the market value - many people call that being over-confident (even if the price is consistent with the exploitation value). If the owner is the land, they often call that narcissistic or egocentric. They do that because they have a problem understanding business or/and they are competitors on the market, quetching to get their market value up, or/and prospective buyers with not enough cash, quetching to get the property price down.
But, as I’ve stated before, a piece of land has also an exploitation value. Smart consumers buy properties with a good exploitation value/price ratio. Unknowledgeable consumers buy properties with a good market value/price ratio, because they are unable to evaluate the property themselves. Once again, this is a case where knowledge comes in handy.
Since I like exploitation value better than the market one (when I eat a steak, I need it to be good rather than be famous to be good), and since unknowledgeable consumers tend to make good products waste time and effort bringing their market value up, instead of concentrating on bringing up their exploitation value, YES, not only do I disregard unknowledgeable consumers, I ACTUALLY HATE THEM (and wish they would die in terrible pain and anguish
).
Coming back to our discussion, of course you are not just the amount of what you know, or just the sum of the bits, pieces and parts. As much as a human is not just the sum of its organs, skin, bones and whatever else we might house.
Yes, I do find myself pretty often disregarding lack of knowledge, in others and also in me. When I say self-elevation and self-progress (you tended to answer to the first term although I have mostly used the second in my latest reply – I wonder why…), I mean making the self better. Whether it’s a progress compared to others or not, I don’t think it’s the main issue. Usually progress is a word explaining overcoming oneself, not the competition (not implying that there is such or that if exists, I am or not trying to overcome it).
And yes, I agree, I, we - will always be human and die. But there’s also a question of how we die and more important - how we live. I am not a fan of simplicity in reasoning or in about anything in that matter. I care about how I live and die.
I think carnality is not ugly (we’re not speaking of mental diseases here, but just of the human condition). I think it is beautiful. And to quote one human I deeply respect:
„Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault.
Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope.
They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only beauty.”
And I’m not the only one who thinks it’s beautiful. I actually read an Orthodox book that said that the only difference between people and God that makes man more beautiful/treasurable is his temporariness. We transform. We never stay the same.
We are born and we will die. Our single intervention is what we do in-between. If we choose to do nothing, then we will have sat all our life with a billion dollars in our bank account, without using it. We have the power to change ourselves and the universe. We have the power to grow. We have the power to be happy, and live! And rejoice!
And I, for once, would rather be happy than sad.
And I would rather use that billion dollars…
Tickling in fact is a very important part for someone to grow up since it stimulates the neural system to develop more efficiently. I suppose in terms of your body you are fully grown but mentally as I understand you agree we never stop growing (hopefully), so you should be thankful as am I because you started it even though that wasn’t your intend (most likely).
I might have misused the word carnality, what I mean is fleshliness, the basis of evolutionary rules and instincts that (might) determine your behaviour if you allow those impulses to go unchecked and can eventually produce things like overconfidence - and that is - potentially at least, a very ugly face.
Besides that, judging people is putting them into a box with an attemp to never let them out again. Since you and me have never met, lets be extra careful with that and there will be a lot more benefit from this converasation. Chances are, that half the time we use the same word but have quite a different understanding of it.
Who determines the value of a person - very funny, you do.
Just to clarify, I don’t see confidence as an act of egocentrism but as something everybody should possess, because confidence can set you free to be what you were meant to be. Confidence though depends on so many different social and economical factors that it can’t always be gained by just any one human being. Overconfidence (and the word means to much which is not good) on the other hand is simply arrogant, “elevating” yourself over other people, declaring you are of more value than someone else, rather then reaching out in confidence and encourage those people that hadn’t had a chance to develop a sound confidence - yet.
What do you mean by “they are the elect …” Who elects them? Maybe that’s arrogant again because they only feel elect?
With the rest I do agree except for the fact that mankind transforms. Look at this world, people are still motivated by the very same things as already hundreds of years ago: Power, Money (much the same in a way) and Sex. Of course there are excemptions but they are rare. And if by any chance, you have democratic systems in mind by which we rule ourselves then the mere fact that we have those … no that we need them at all, should show you that we need them to restrain ourself - because if we truly had transformed we wouldn’t need them. Any law and rule (in that sense) that you see in this world points out a human weakness that would go wild otherwise.
look, without me meaning anything more than the words i’m sending to you… you look smart enough for me to let the guard down and listen to what you have to say, even if i strongly disagree with it.
and knowing that you live in Germany, somewhere near the Czech Republic, and that according to what you say, we have never met, this discussion could last for all eternity. but time doesn’t allow me to do that, at least not in these circumstances.
so if you want to chat, feel free to add me to your messenger list: xaide_elf at yahoo.com
i can’t promise that I’ll have the time, but at least we shall benefit from a more… dynamic environment
Thanks for the offer and - those somewhat flattering words - coming from a person as smart as you … . I am not sure yet weather I will take you up on your offer, I need my time to think before I respond and secondly, even though I don’t know you I still perceive you as a fun person yet all that happens is arguments. Is that really helpful? We talk but do we listen and - grow?
Not very likely yet not impossible, if you ever like to explore Germany near the Czech Republic pop me an email (this is my part of dropping the guard:setefanoatgmxdotnet).
I am a fairly safe person, got a wife and two kids.
Till then or beyond - I sincerely wish you a happy life and if you find out why the world spins the way it does, let me know. Blessings
